Theatre blocking, without the busywork

Keep every entrance, cross, and stage picture clear.

ActThread is a focused, local-first blocking workspace for directors, stage managers, drama teachers, and small theatre groups.

Useful from first read-through to opening night.

01

Ground plans that speak theatre

Build production-default or scene-specific stages with named entrances, editable scenery, audience orientation, and actor-perspective directions.

02

Blocking beat by beat

Duplicate a stage picture, move character tracks, shape straight, curved, or waypoint routes, then use one-pass auto-step to follow the scene.

03

Private and portable by design

No account, ads, analytics, tracking, or developer cloud. Share one editable production through Apple’s share sheet; a friend imports an independent copy with no sync or co-editing.

Answers that keep rehearsal moving.

ActThread includes contextual help and an original sample production inside the app. These answers cover the questions most likely to come up outside rehearsal.

Where is my work stored?

Productions are saved in ActThread's private app container on your device. Before replacing a valid primary library, ActThread preserves it as one automatic recovery copy. That copy normally contains the previous valid save, so a recently edited or deleted item can remain there until a later valid save replaces it. Apple may also include app data in a device backup depending on your settings.

Does ActThread need an internet connection?

No. Editing, timed one-pass auto-step, local persistence, recovery, sharing, and import do not use a developer service. A destination such as iCloud Drive or Messages may require its own connection.

How do I share editable blocking with a friend?

From a production's menu, choose Share Editable Copy. Send with Messages or AirDrop, or save to iCloud Drive in Files and share from there. Your friend chooses Import Shared Production in ActThread; it is added as a new, independent production. Later edits do not sync or merge, and there is no co-editing.

How do I share a rehearsal document?

Export the current beat as a PNG or a scene as a multi-page PDF packet. With Include notes enabled, full rehearsal-note text continues in an appendix. Choose a destination in Apple's share sheet; that destination governs its copy.

Can I back up the whole library?

Yes. Export Editable Backup writes a JSON copy of the full library to a Files or document-provider destination you choose. Restore Editable Backup is separate from production sharing: it reads a JSON copy you select and asks before replacing every production in the current library.

How do I delete a production?

In the production library, open the production menu and choose Delete. ActThread asks for confirmation before removing it.
